United Recovery Systems – Stop Getting Harassed by This Collection Agency

United Recovery Systems Offices

United Recovery Systems, “URS”, is a collection agency headquartered in Houston, TX and operating out of several offices in the southwest U.S. and Mexico. When credit card companies, retailers, and other businesses find it difficult to collect on monies owed them, they sometimes seek the services of collectors like United Recovery Systems. A company with over one thousand employees, URS claims on its website that its success and growth over the past thirty-five years can be attributed to their “providing a high-quality collection service”.

Ironically, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (federal legislation enacted to protect consumers from unethical or strong-arm collection techniques) came into existence right around the same time that United Recovery Systems was founded. And though the laws governing how a consumer should be treated by a debt collector have been around for about as long as United Recovery Systems, court records show that the company has been sued for FDCPA violations more than 175 times in the past few years. During this same period, the Better Business Bureau (with which URS does not have accreditation) has processed hundreds of billing and/or collection issues and other complaints against URS.

The FDCPA is a federal law that protects consumers in every state. It does not permit excessive calling, harassment, threats, unauthorized calls to your place of employment, misrepresentations; and the list goes on. Basically, if after being contacted by a collector, such as, United Recovery Systems, you are left feeling mistreated or threatened, there is a good chance that the collector’s tactics were illegal. The FDCPA is not a set of guidelines to be followed voluntarily.

Violations are punishable by fines to the offender and monetary awards to the victim. It is also believed the United Recovery Systems regularly violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), by robo-dialing the cell phone numbers of consumers who have not given them express consent to be contacted by an automated telephone dialing system (ATDS).

I actually just received a voicemail from URS 224-532-2315 that simply stated “I’LL FIX HER” and disconnected. I don’t answer calls from numbers I don’t know. How about leaving a legitimate voicemail so I know who is trying to reach me?
